Walnuts contain about 30–300 IU of vitamin A, 0.22–0.45 mg thiamin, 0.10–0.16 mg riboflavin, and 0.7–1.105 mg niacin 100 g −1 of kernel.Walnut trees should be planted in areas where there is good air circulation and drainage and will grow optimally when planted in a deep, fertile, well-draining loam soil with a pH between 5.5 U.S. No. 1 consists of portions of walnut kernels which are well dried, clean, free from shell, foreign material, insect injury, decay, rancidity, and free from damage caused by shriveling, mold, discoloration of the meat, or other means.
